The First Shaker Community was settled at Watervliet in the area then called Niskeyuna

This is a very confusing topic. When Mother Ann and her followers arrived to the site that would become the Watervliet Shaker Village, it was part of Niskayuna, then the boundaries of the towns changed, and it was in Watervliet. Today, it is in the Town of Colonie, and has an Albany mailing address. It is a common point of confusion. Niskayuna is now just north of us and Watervliet is due east...
